Chris Hewitt
Executive Director
Chris Hewitt is the executive director of the Hudson Valley Current, a digital local currency for the mid-Hudson Valley. As a co-founder of the nonprofit project, Hewitt has helped grow the membership in the barter exchange to over 210 members that have exchanged over 160,000 Currents since January 2014. He launched the monthly newspaper Country Wisdom News—age-old and modern thoughts on community, the land and the home—in August 2010, which is now a nonprofit educational component of the Hudson Valley Current. Country Wisdom News, with its new economy insert (Livelihood magazine), reaches over 30,000 readers in Ulster and Dutchess counties each month. Chris Hewitt studied Professional & Technical Communication at Rochester Institute of Technology with a focus on printing, publishing and journalism.
Paul Smart
Communications Director
Paul Smart is a veteran community journalist in the Hudson Valley who writes and edits for a number of newspapers and magazines. He has produced film and theater, curated several art exhibits, written several books, and hosted and produced a regular radio program about Work for a number of years.
Liz Harrington
Director of Local Currency
Liz Harrington, has over 20 years experience matching business needs with talent, content and digital media solutions. She is currently working as an independent growth and new economy strategy consultant from clicks to bricks. In addition to her work with the Hudson Valley Current, she is also Head of Growth for PivotGround, a digital strategy agency that helps nonprofits increase capacity, deliver better programming, attract more funding, and hopefully make the world a little better. Previous work saw Liz with Associated Press and Getty Images. She is a board member for O+, holds a B.S. in cultural anthropology from SUNY Brockport, and is certified in intellectual property law from New York University.
Courtney R
Executive Assistant
Courtney's background is mainly in education, having spent over five years as an elementary teacher. She earned a BA in Government, and spent time interning at non-profits during college. Courtney recently relocated to the Hudson Valley, and enjoys spending time exploring all the region has to offer.
Sonia Narvaez
Ambassador Program Director
Sonia is an Ulster County native who attended Rondout Valley High School, received a bachelor's in health sciences with a concentration on public health from SUNY Stony Brook, and a master's in public health from the University of Illinois-Chicago. She returned home to found her own company, Socially Passionate Consulting.

David McCarthy
David Nelson McCarthy moved to the Hudson Valley as part of his many years of study and work with Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche, the abbot of Karma Triyana Dharmachakra (KTD) in Woodstock, for whom he ran video and book production enterprises. He received a B.A. in music from University of Michigan and studied for an additional two years at the Naropa Institute in Boulder Colorado, playing along such jazz greats as Ralph Towner, Charlie Hayden, and John Ambercrombie. McCarthy is the author of Civil Endowment: The Transformation of Economic Power, and co-founder of the Hudson Valley Current. He previously founded the organization that has since become Sustainable Hudson Valley.
Mike Caslin
After three decades of his own successful entrepreneur work, Prof. Caslin is recognized as a respected entrepreneur practitioner, faculty member and Social Entrepreneurship thought leader through his work as co-founder and CEO of NFTE and his education and leadership roles with Babson College, Babson Global, Investor’s Circle, Rising Tide Capital, SJF Institute, STRIVE, CUNY-Baruch College-Zicklin Business School, The Fund for American Studies, and Urgent VC, LLC, among others, as well as a member on numerous for and nonprofit boards. Mike holds a B.A. in Economics & Political Science from Manhattanville College and an MBA, with a concentration in Entrepreneurship from Babson College F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business. He founded Kingston-based GCSEN as a means of better-centering social entrepreneur start-ups within the Hudson Valley.
Christine Atkinson
Atkinson owns and operates Graze Farm to Table, offering farm to table catering, full-service wedding and event planning, and private chefs for the Hudson Valley and Catskills. Graze’s philosophy is to create elegant, memorable, one-of-a-kind experiences for any occasion. Christine’s menus celebrate the bounty of local farms with a passion for showcasing an abundance of farm-direct meat, dairy, and seasonal produce. She started her chef's career in Miami, with notable stops in Manhattan before moving to the Hudson Valley.
Scott Morris
Morris is a social entrepreneur, community currency system expert, and community organizer. He is the founder and president of IthaCash, a regional cooperative currency program for in-and-around Tompkins County, New Yor. Scott is also the founder of AmeriQoin, a Cooperative for Community Currencies in North America emulating and expanding on the model of its Dutch partner Qoin. AmeriQoin provides currency system engineering expertise, consulting, and implementation assistance to existing community currencies, grassroots organizations, local business networks, and others seeking to create and deploy designer and/or targeted currency programs for social, environmental, and commercial purposes.
Rebecca Rojer
An independent filmmaker, artist, and community organizer, Rojer's work has been published by Jacobin, The New Inquiry, and The Nation. She is also the founder & creative director of Beccatron Studios, a multimedia production company with an emphasis on videography, graphic design, and identity services. She graduated with high honors from the Visual and Environmental Studies Department at Harvard University in 2010; her undergraduate thesis film “Ashley/Amber" premiered at the Berlinale in 2011. Rebecca is a founding member of Ulster People for Justice and Democracy, a board member of Midtown Rising, and a founding board member of the Modern Money Network.
