Giving Tuesday is a favorite holiday in our house. Ever since Nicole and I met when we were 20 years old, giving to nonprofits has been something we both just love to do. It’s one of many ways that we just fit.
This year we’re inviting you to join the celebration, and the Current team and I have a few ideas we hope you’ll like.
Nicole and I are kicking off the Current Giving Tuesday Pay-it-Forward Shindig by personally donating 500 Currents. That will pay for 50 meals to be delivered as needed through Ulster County’s Project Resilience. We’re hoping members will kick in on a match fund. It would rock to have 1,000 Currents to pay 100 meals forward—even better to have 200 meals. Please donate to Pay It Forward to support this effort.
Also on the Shindig menu: You can Pay It Forward with a 50 or 25 Current gift card redeemable for local goods at the Tilda’s Kitchen & Market, helping families in need and local makers with one blow! The cards will be distributed to Kingston residents in need; we’ll be working with Radio Kingston’s Community Fund to distribute the gift cards.
Or, you can Pay It Forward with Brunch Boxes. Our Brunch Box is a 4-pack of bagels, either plain or everything, and all the fixin’s: smoked salmon, avocado, tomato, red onion and capers, plus bacon and a dozen eggs. All this for 40 Currents.
Fourth possibility: Care Package dinner boxes. Each Care Package contains dinner for a family of four for three nights, designed for taste and nutrition by our director of food security, Chef Christine Atkinson. The box includes menu cards and ingredients for Seasoned Delicious Rice and Beans with Chicken Chorizo; Hemp Pasta with Italian Sausage, with a Garlic and Spinach Red Sauce, and a full Chicken Dinner with sides. Our discount for today on all of this: 100 Currents.
We’ll distribute your delicious gift boxes where they’re most needed through Family of Woodstock and People’s Place.
This is multidirectional giving, friends. Giving that multiplies and radiates. You’re feeding locals, supporting our growers and building our local wealth by circulating the Current.
