Livelihood Magazine: Your guide to our local economy
We know how abundant and beautiful the Hudson Valley region is and we’re determined to nurture it. Livelihood Magazine is your resource for news about enriching local business in our community.
The magazine, which is proudly published by the Hudson Valley Current, was created in 2010 by publisher and serial entrepreneur Chris Hewitt.
Hewitt, who is trained as a master gardener and a beekeeper, had an up close and personal look at the beautiful, awe-inspiring things that happen in our communities every day—even if it’s simply the building of a beautiful hive or the blooming of a flower.
He started Livelihood, then known as Country Wisdom News, with the intention of sharing good news with the people of Ulster and Dutchess counties. Once Country Wisdom became a publication of the Hudson Valley Current in 2016, the focus shifted towards making a living in the community.
Fittingly renamed Livelihood, the paper explores the idea of building a thriving local economy and tells stories that detail the positive impacts of investing in your community.
The magazine features local stories about:
- Keeping money local
- Sustainable business growth
- Green energy and construction
- Community currencies around the world
- Creating abundance locally, and much more!
Although the original Country Wisdom News was printed on broadsheet newspaper like papers from the 18th century, you’ll now find the magazine in tabloid size printed on environmentally friendly Ecopaque paper.
